WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO OPEN YOUR HEART? 17 Benefits

When do you feel better,  if you are experiencing joy or dismay? Well we would probably all answer joy.  So what would you do to live in a space of being in open hearted gratitude? How do we sculpt our lives to live in this?

Imagine if each day we started it with living in gratitude. That would change our outlook, our body health, our interactions. That is amazingly powerful.  When I watched this video it truly stirred my heart. And gave me the impetus to think about what does it mean to open your heart?

OPEN HEART

Let’s look at that. To open our hearts is something we say so easily. But how often do we truly do it?

To me, an open heart is defined by no perimeters. It is as if living in the childlike space of wonderment.  Accepting that each moment brings to us what we need. There is no space for judgment, criticism, labels, expectations or attachment. It is accepting the flow of the Universe without preamble.

It is a sense of complete freedom, for we do not have to respond. Other than just be in a space of hearing and witnessing and loving.

 OPEN HEART LIVING BENEFITS

1. Lowers our blood pressure

2. Allows our life to flow

3. We do not experience anger

4. We live in simple love

5. We can hear without judgment

6. We are more focused on the positive

7. We open up to more positive community interaction

8. We are much healthier

9. We are living in the sacred space of inner peace

10. Our world expands in ways that are immeasurable in compassion and love.

11. We are completely connected to the Universal Flow

12. We feel abundance and successful.

13. We are living in a vibrational state of higher frequency of our own inner truth.

14. We are much happier.

15 . We live in a most flowing expansive state of gratitude

16. We live in service to ourselves and others

17. We thrive in heart-centric living.

GRATITUDE

Ahhh, this word just opens my being. When we live in gratitude we are actually opening our hearts to be fully connected to Spirit and the Universe. And that is the elixir of life to me. For in the space of living gratitude, expansive thinking and love is the norm. When we live in gratitude we are actually experiencing the letting go of societal expectations. Instead, we are diving into the heart of our own sacred positive truth. And it means we can love wholeheartedly.

According to Wikipedia,Gratitude, thankfulness, thanksgiving[1], or gratefulness, from the Latin gratus ‘pleasing, thankful’,[2] is a feeling of appreciation felt by and/or similar positive response shown by the recipient of kindness, gifts, help, favors, or other types of generosity, towards the giver of such gifts.[3] The experience of gratitude has historically been a focus of several world religions.[4] It has also been a topic of interest to ancient, medieval and modern philosophers, and continues to engage contemporary western philosophers.

To me it is the connection between living in gratitude and the emotion. So if we are living gratitude, are in a space of appreciation, joy, and peace. It is so simple and so life affirming.

Do everything as far as you can for love and you will see what you are capable of! One can make more progress this way in a year, than in ten by the way of fear. St. Mary Euphrasia

For instance, as you go through your day say out loud what you are grateful for. The ability to take a breath? The ability to walk? The sharing of a smile? The beauty of the gifts of nature? The first sip of morning tea?

By doing this you will feel a sense of lightness and freedom. For then we are living in the gift of gratitude and being.

MEDITATION FOR OPEN HEART

Find a comfortable place to sit.

Take three deep breaths and slowly exhale.

Direct your breath to deep inside your chest.

Find the place where your heart radiates. This is your true heart.

As you feel your breath here, imagine your heart expanding.

Let it expand to your entire body.

Then see it expanding beyond your body.

Then see it fill the entire room.

In this moment, your space is filled with your open heart.

Feel the lightness and joy.

Allow yourself to go deeply into this open hearted space.

Accept the love that you are.

Repeat this:

In each moment of every day, everything, every step, every thought I do, is in open hearted loving and service.  I am love.

Take three more breaths. And thank the Universe for the gift of this moment.

When you are ready, stand up and stretch to the sky.

Try using this saying during your day and see what changes occur. I really would like to hear what changes you are experiencing.

And know that with each step you take you are exponentially raising the vibrational energy of the world around you. So that translates to being of service because you are planting sweet seeds of love and connection.

For instance, when we share an unexpected smile with a stranger, our whole body changes. That is the way we can be of service to others just by being in this amazing space of  an open heart.

HOW TO OPEN YOUR HEART IN YOUR DAILY LIFE

It is truly simple. Just be loving. That is all there is to it. Rather than thinking we have to fix, repair, judge, change, enlighten, scold, determine, expect, attach, we just simply love without perimeters. Is it easy to do? Hmm, that is dependent on how we choose to look at living this way.

Try this as an experiment.  And be mindful of how you feel doing through this process. Note how your body feels, and what your mind is choosing to do. And then check in with your loving higher self.

A friend stops by and starts telling a story that is truly laden with daily life annoyances. And you are so aware that the friend is somehow invested in the drama. So right off the bat, choices are flooding your mind.

Do I need to fix this? What does my friend need? What does my friend expect of me?

And then suddenly you remember that you have chosen to live in the open heart space.  What do I need to do?

Ahh, but do we like the answer here? We need to do nothing. Nothing? Yes nothing.  If we are truly living in open heartedness, that is what we give out too. It appears as if we are doing nothing. But in reality,  we are doing everything.

We just listen in love. We hear in love, We give in love. We do not judge or fix. We just bear witness and make sure our friend knows they are loved.

Can we do this? Indeed we can. Will it take practice. Yes it will.  Will it change our lives? Yes indeed!

SUMMARY

The choice to live in an open heart way, is to me affirming that life is love. It is the experience of being transformational and expansive.  When we choose open heartedness, we let go of all that does not suit our higher selves. It allows us to live in a freedom that is unparalled.  And each day we get to choose again and again, the simpleness of opening our hearts. What more could we possibly want from this experience ? The benefits and joy truly outweigh the lugging around of all the baggage that only brings us down. So on this day, at this moment, What is our choice?   Healthy, loving, joy, beingness and expansiveness, service and living in our highest good. That is the ultimate life.

  2. Your enlightenment with your inner self really shows in the way you express yourself in your writings. Self-awareness leads to one finding their purpose in life. and everyone’s purpose in life is to help others. We will all have a different way to do this but it starts with gratitude.

  3. First of all I want to say that I am grateful for what I have. I didn’t have much when I grew up so I was grateful for what I did have.

    Too many younger people these days are spoilt in my opinion and they do fall into that negative space all too easy and because of the little things in life.

    But I must say that I too do fall victim to this at times, so I must remain positive and open my heart.

    I can see that it does have many benefits so I will do this more in 2018.

  4. I really believe the more we learn to love each other the better off we will be. I can’t remember where I read this, but it was advice on how to deal with someone that has truly done you wrong.

    Basically, you imagine that person that did you wrong. You imagine a time in their life when someone really did something terrible to them. You try to genuinely feel sorry for them.

    Next, you imagine them being face to face and make yourself not get angry or anything when you see them. Over time you do this multiple times and then the next time you see that person that really did wrong to you, you don’t feel any real anger towards them.

    I have actually tried this method out before and I was surprised at how effective it was. A lot of people will try to tell you to forgive and forget, but it’s easier just to tell someone that rather than give them a solution on how to forgive and forget.

    Thanks so much for this article as it has reminded me of things that I’ve vowed to do but didn’t lately. The things above sound simple but they really aren’t – when people do bad things I tend to forget to feel gratitude. But I’m going to try again.

  6. Being able to open your heart and live in that childlike space is something that I think many of us desire. To have that sense of peace and just go with the flow of the universe without letting all of the other “junk” in that does not matter is awesome.

    If we just sit back and meditate on the benefits you mentioned here I believe more of us would desire to open our hearts. Sometimes in our busy worlds we just forget to stop and do so.
