HELPING WITH NECK PAIN?
Neck pain can be debilitating. While you may not always be able to remove the pain entirely in the case of chronic conditions, there may be ways to still ease the pain until it is practically unnoticeable. Here are just a few different ways to fight neck pain. Like what about your pillow in helping with neck pain?
Get professional help
In order to effectively fight neck pain, you need to know the cause – is it a joint problem, a muscular problem or an issue with a tendon? You may want to consult a doctor if you haven’t already in order to get to the source of the pain as this will help you to choose the right treatment options.
In the case of neck pain as the result of a car accident, seeing a doctor could be of urgent importance. Consider whether you can get your treatment paid for with a legal claim – a personal injury lawyer may be able to help get you compensation in the case of whiplash.
For chronic degenerative conditions, you may be able to look into charity funding if you’re in serious pain but can’t afford treatment.
Avoid activities that involve sharply turning your neck
Activities that require sharp neck movement are most likely going to aggravate the pain. Try to avoid these when possible. Examples could include sports such as tennis or driving.
With chronic conditions you may need to train yourself not to move your head too sharply – if someone talks to you from behind, make an effort of turning around completely rather than turning your head.
Take a hot bath that will help with neck pain
Hot baths are great for treating neck pain as the hot water helps to ease inflammation. This is due to both the heat and the buoyancy of the water which relaxes muscles and gets the blood pumping more freely. Try taking regular hot baths and see what difference it makes.
Helping with Neck pain? Get a professional massage
A professional massage could also be great for loosening up your neck muscles and potentially releasing any trapped nerves. You may be able to see a chiropractor to do a focused massage on your particular neck injury. Or you may prefer to simply book a regular massage (just be sure to tell the person doing the massage about your condition).
NOw this is a big one for helping with neck pain…Change your pillow
You could find that sleeping on a regular pillow increases your neck pain. Consider buying an orthopaedic pillow that provides better neck support. You can find these pillows online.
I don’t know about you, but I am always looking for the perfect pillow. After years of neck injuries, I am really particular about my pillows. Are you? What have you found that works for you?
And isn’t it just amazing that a pillow can make such a huge change?
Uh oh! Cut out the bad habits
Many bad habits could also be aggravating your neck pain. Smoking often worsens chronic pain and is a habit you should consider cutting down on. Similarly, you may want to cut down on sugary foods that could be making inflammation greater. A lack of sleep could also be having an impact on your neck pain, so make sure that you’re not staying up unnecessarily late.
