As we go through this journey we call life, sometimes things happen that we do not always understand. And if we are experiencing mental health issues we cannot always find the support we need. Here are some thoughts and options that hopefull will help understanding mental health, the invisible cloak. 

Have you had to deal with mental health issues? How is it impacting your life? And do you feel like it is a stigma that needs to be in the shadows? It seems like our world does not see how important it is to know that any illness of the body deserves tender loving care.

In the last few years it seems that opening up about what is happening to you, is less stigmatized. And the important part is that we make the choice to do exactly what needs to be done to help ourselves.

So what is Mental health?

In all reality changes in our mental health are due to both chemical changes and stress levels. Mental health can show symptoms to the sufferer in many different forms, and each different type of mental health affects people differently.

You know that sense when you just feel like you are jumping out of your skin? Or feeling so anxious all the time? Panic attacks and cold sweats? Those are signs of anxiety. Do you have to live this way? No, not at all. There are options.

Do not try to hide this. Or think that you can get through this alone. It is hard to have to deal with this alone. And although it might feel like people are aware of what is going on, do not let their opinions stop you from realizing you are needing support.

Mental Health issues are really not something to ignore or hide.

But know you are not alone and there are places to reach out. Mental health clinics that have drop in rooms. And perhaps you have  friends that will spend time with you.

The problem with mental health is that it’s still hard to talk about. Even for those who have close family members or friends, the fear of being told that you’re being silly and that ‘you’re fine’ often puts people off.

You are being so courageous when you are able to talk about what is happening to  you. Especially when we are not understanding what we are experiencing.

Feeling like you’re worthless and that nothing you do is ever right. That is so difficult to live with.

So how can you help lessen these conditions?

Once your Doctor has established what you’re suffering with, they can take steps and offer you different courses of treatment to choose from, so that you can find the one that suits you best.

Options of taking Pills for Mental health 

It seems that one of the first things that your doctor will offer you is to begin a course of antidepressants. Know that anti-depressants are also given for anxiety.

If you do choose pharmacology do know that it works to balance your chemical brain dilemmas. Do  not expect them to work immediately. Sometimes it can take weeks or months until you see your mood and life changing.

Did you know that you can also speak to your local pharmacist for advice on how to tackle the way that you’re feeling? Pharmacists are trained to give advice and can sometimes prevent you from having to go and see a doctor.

If you are uncomfortable with taking these meds, do discuss them with your health care provider.

And it might be worth just trying it for a few months to see if that is enough of a chemical change to off set the symptoms. And if that works then perhaps you can think about not staying on them for a long period of time. 

Your Doctor will likely give you a form to fill in which will ask you questions about the way that you’ve been feeling called a PHQ-9, which will give them a better idea on how bad you’re actually feeling.

This test is normally used for patients suffering with depression, but often patients with anxiety are asked to fill one out because some of the symptoms are very similar.

Antidepressants work by resetting the chemical balance in your brain, allowing you to think more clearly and also getting rid of anything that’s causing your brain to feel and think the way it does.

Be aware that they don’t work from the first pill you take, and can take up to two months before you fully notice a difference in your mood

It is another tool in the tool chest so to speak.

CBT is the next treatment that you will be offered.  And it’s basically offering you one on one time with a therapist that can help dive into your problems. The purpose is  to try and find the source of why you’re feeling the way that you do.

This works well because often anxiety is caused by phobias and your CBT therapist can help you work out why you have a phobia of what you do, and whether it’s the sole cause of your anxiety.

Find out  and Establish Who Your Support Team is for your Mental Health

Do inquire about modalities that will work for you. From holistic to conventional there are many options out there. Between your therapist and general practitioner they should be able to help guide you.

And if you are interested, meditation for mental health, is an amazing and easy way to help boost our endorphins and change our thoughts .Do consider trying even simple breathing exercises to help regulate and calm our bodies.

Begin exercising more. Exercising releases endorphins, which makes you feel happier. Plus, becoming fitter and more toned will boost your self esteem.



Even in this day and time mental health issues are still not addressed with the import that needs to be. If you are in this situation of needing support, please do not stay isolated. It is important to get help.

We discussed some ways to deal with mental health issues from anxiety to working with medication. Do know there are resources. You are not alone. And there is no shame or guilt in having these dilemmas. The best thing you can do for yourself is find ways to get healthy again.

Mental health issues are not something to ignore. And we can no longer pretend they do not exist or are an invisible cloak. Do find whatever you need to help you.
