A friend just said to me, Stop talking so you can listen, The Universe has something to say!
Really, did you just say that to me?
I have to admit, it stopped me dead in my tracks.
Then he said, are you really willing to stop talking and listen?
Huh, do I have too?
This is how it works, he continues ignoring me.
We ask the Universe for guidance and show our willingness to hear and listen. And in that process we also give up our burdens. Sounds so simple!
In reality, it is. If we are willing to recognize that needing control is no longer an issue.
Really? I have to give up trying to control my world? Is that even in my DNA? LOL
If I am truly wanting to practice heart- centric living, that means by default, living in kindness might also mean giving up controlling a situation, giving up burdens that are not mine to take on and really learning to listen to the universe.
So in my willingness to live a far more spiritual, easy, loving life, it is giving up and surrendering that is going to allow my peace to flow.
Almost sounds like an oxymoron…doesn’t it?
I pictured how life would be if I choose to give up full control. It means I agree to not worry, not obsess, not to take on drama. Especially if its not mine. And to choose love as the only determiner of my every thought and action.
There might be moments this might be a challenge, I thought.
I think the older I get, the more I am questioning what my true inner compass looks like.
So that led me to thinking about how our spiritual foundation is built, is it on love? Is it even thriving and feeding us?
In my own practice of meditation I am in peace when I sit and ask the Universe to show me my path in my highest self. And usually I get incredible signs and answers.
Which also points the way to you can listen!
Other times though I am inclined to wonder where exactly is my seemingly meandering path going. And I have to admit, so many times I am not even able to see the signs and the connecting dots.
Again, am I listening?
When I was in the throes of my illness, just getting through each moment felt like I had climbed Mt McKinley! Slowly though as the fog was lifting, I was able to start seeing the gifts of this space I had landed into.
Did I much like looking at it? Nope!
UNEXPECTED TEACHERS, YOU CAN LISTEN!
Thankfully I found mentors to turn to, Google, and YouTube! Sounds funny, but actually since I was so home bound these were absolute gifts to me! I researched spiritual teachers. I watched and listened to teachers speak about their journeys to their own spirituality.
One of my go to’s is Matt Kahn. This impish man talks in terms that are incredibly profound, yet perfectly simple and loving. He advises us to love ourselves. He calls it the Love Revolution.
I remember being told as a young girl, that thinking about our own needs and self wants, is considered selfish. Only to learn much later, if we are not willing to take wonderful care of our selves and our hearts, we become lost.
And it also feels like we are betraying ourselves when we do not listen and respect our inner voice. I know this life lesson.
Have you noticed this? So it also begs the question you can listen.

THE LOVE REVOLUTION, YOU CAN LISTEN
I hope we all think about a Love Revolution. In fact in his teachings ,Matt Kahn suggests blessing someone in the unseen who has not behaved well. I have done this practice over and over. Have you ever tried it?
It really changes my energy and I know that I am putting out goodness, rather than pettiness. And it gives me the sense and connection to a large world view.
Now I walk around the block, blessing everything I see. Don’t laugh. Although it sounds almost papal like, I cannot believe the profound effect it has on my every cell.
While doing this, I am also changing the energy around me. That is powerful! And it is teaching that you can listen, if we choose.
Another teacher, although he is a reluctant one, is Krishna Das. He is a rock and roller musician turned teacher. And he left America and took off to India where he met his guru. Chanting became his calling. When I chant along with him, I can truly find my center and grounding.
Have you tried chanting with him?
It got me through a lot of places that I was not yet ready to fully let go of. He is very down to earth in talking about his practice and how he is still practicing and learning.
When I am chanting along with him, I am so very present. So in that moment I am flying and so peaceful.
And then unexpectedly I found Gabrielle Bernstein.
She talks to us like we are having tea, in very heart centered language. Talking about her struggle to become pregnant and how it was based in her need for total control in her life, led her to the 5 Steps of Surrender. (Oh no, there are 5 steps?)
The first step I thought was really funny language. Take your hands off the steering wheel! What?
One of the other steps is to focus on what is thriving in your world. I loved this. It made me take stock of all that I am so grateful for, from my window facing the mountains to my blooming orchids.
And mostly the love that is daily bestowed and shared. If you want to know more about Gabrielle Bernstein, and her five steps to surrender there are some idea below.
Who are your teachers and what have been your outcomes?
I so look forward to hearing how you travel this space!
in peace and gratitude,
